Philly Spotlight provides fun, enriching activities to Philadelphia locals and tourists so you can enjoy our favorite city as much as we do. But, what does it all mean if we can’t inspire a generation of new artists and musicians to follow suit?
We’re trying to change that. All of the services through Philly Spotlight are done with a mission that’s close to our hearts – youth education, empowerment, violence prevention and risk reduction.
The Youth Empowered through Performing Arts (YEPTA) program is Philly Spotlight’s partner in giving back to our community. They are responsible for grooming countless young people to pursue their dreams in performing arts and sciences. This after-school, weekend, and summer enrichment program creates opportunities for low-income youth to develop their skills in Graphic Arts, Music Instrument Digital Interface (Midi), Digital Recording, Photography, Computer Science and Aviation Science to name a few.
“There is a better life beyond their current circumstances”
– Terrell Guy
YEPTA offers a nurturing environment for youth to develop interests that may fall to the side in high risk, and often violent, communities. To kickstart this initiative, and hold fast to our personal mission to help youth realize their full artistic potential, Philly Spotlight partners with YEPTA by collecting and distributing used or new musical instruments.
Our generous partners who are passionate about the arts provide us with musical instruments (we have already received 47) that may require some slight repair or a new coat of polish. Regardless of the condition, we get the instruments cleaned up and ship them off to one of the 500 children in our database in need of that instrument. In this way, we hope to play a small part encouraging these aspiring artists to go after their dreams.
When you purchase concert tickets or tours via Philly Spotlight, you not only get a unique Philadelphia experience, but directly support a group of young individuals in our community who may not otherwise get this chance. Our ultimate goal is to build a state of the art facility where we can take in 800 students and mentor them in the performing arts. In short, you make a difference in Philadelphia when you use our services and we thank you!
